Quoted from: Passion4Soccer, June 22nd, 2010 17:40 GMTSo is it your opinion that ODP is NOT the set path for girls to be recognized? Is there a "set path?"
On the girls side, ODP (and to a lesser extent iD2) is the set path for identification by youth national team coaches for youth national team play. ODP/iD2 is not the only path for identification by college coaches for college team play.

Thanks Hooked!
P4S, There were more than 24 at tryouts on just the day you showed up however I believe your point is still valid at 30, 31 or 32....20 to be selected is still a very good ratio...You know what...GOOD for those girls...they have a look at State! It doesn't mean they will make it but they have a chance!~

I am thrilled the girls get their chance.
My concern is that State ODP will become even more difficult for some...as a result of opening the floodgates for those who should never have gone to State tryouts.
The District Evaluator, said himself...that "State ODP wanted him to be very selective...moreso than in previous years." I would have to believe they made that request...so they wouldn't have to do unnecessary filtering at the State level.
Potentially...this evaluator could lose credibility...making it more difficult for those who may deserve to be seen, in future years...because the State evaluators may develop a negative bias towards District 6.
I believe...If the district 6 evaluator had done what was requested of him...then at the State tryout, they may pay more attention to those 7 "really good" players...rather than glancing at the 7 "really good" players mixed in with 13 other "not so good" players.
While it gives 13 others a shot at being seen...the 7 may not get as good of a look.

That's certainly a possible downside. Yet, the old process for getting down to those 7 took a lot of time from May to the end of October. So, the upside is that players and families should have more free time under the new system. Will the new process work as well at identifying the appropriate players? I don't know. I look at it as an experiment and I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

I'm very interested to see how it turns out as well and I believe that they should have been a tad bit more selective however I am not sure from what I saw that the evaluator could really tell in just those sessions and therefore may have allowed for a little room for error...

It will be very interesting to see if the new format gives better looks at the players who are hoping to advance to State Tryouts in December.
I had a daughter go through district two years ago and had the playdate structure...that had some drawbacks as well since you were hoping to show well, but since it was a game environment, anything could happen. Regarding the 2010 D6 tryouts....there were 18 selected of the 41+ girls that tried out for the '98 selection....so it will be interesting to see what format they put together for the Sept and Oct tryouts. Two hour tryouts, scrimmages, etc.
It may mean a better opportunity to show - one can only hope they have more than one evaluator selecting. It was really disappointing that D6 only had one evaluator for the 98 girls....the first day, he had some high school girls helping, but really... Again, two years ago, there were three evaluators at every session determining who made district team. They then coached them throughout the summer to prepare them for the playdates. They were a team and since the level of talent was so high, it made for a quick transition to team play.

Tryouts was a four day tryout. (Two sessions of two days)
I counted 24 on the first day...
I was told by a few parents that had daughters trying out...that they saw the same turnout the 2nd day.
I am guessing the other 17+ showed up for the last two days?

I do not know if there were 17+ players but I do know that there were more than what you saw P4S as I was there for the last weekend..there were some different girls...did not do a headcount but suffice it to say that the numbers are more than what you counted originally.
