For a bit of amusement, take a look at the battle brewing between US Club Soccer and CalSouth down in SoCal. Things are heating up pretty darn fast over the largest and arguable best competition league in the nation (Coast Soccer League) running their own USCS sanctioned "state cup" in direct competition to CalSouth's "open" cup.
They are not going after Nationals (yet) but the open cup is CalSouth's cash cow.
If this comes down to the ultimate in brinksmanship then CSL might just pull out of CalSouth completely. Losing SoCal's largest gaming league to US Club Soccer could be just enough to give USCS a credible "national cup" - and if this happens then USYSA will have no more leverage to keep clubs from jumping ship all across the country.
Check out the developing threads discussing this on SoCal's web sites: www.socalsoccer.com, www.socalsoccertalk.com and www.gotsoccer.com (in the "webshot" discussion).

If Cal South were to go US Club, the better teams in Nor cal would probably follow. As some clubs in Nor Cal have discovered, its tough to go it alone. But if you had some company....

The new cup competition which is has been labeled "California Cup" being run by Coast Soccer League is open to all California teams, that includes Cal-N. So, if the teams that generally only enter Cal-N State Cup to extend their season by a few games (that is teams that would be considered second and third division teams) can enter this competition as an option. Should enough teams be interested from Cal-N preliminary rounds of play can be staged in Cal-N.

Things are getting VERY ugly down south. CalSouth might fall completely. Word is that CalSouth's brand new president made the mistake of writing some things down that should never be said - much less written. This could have interesting shock waves into and through the CalNorth organization.

I told you all that this could have direct impact on CalNorth. Today it has.
CalSouth has unilaterally cancelled the North/South Premier tournament. Go so the SoCal boards to read the letter from Gary Sparks, CSL's premier league chairman, for more of the ugly details.
Why did they do this? No reason other than their feud with CSL. Ugly, ugly stuff.

It was stated on those boards that CYSA-N might have pulled its teams in support of Cal South. Some one from CYSA-N needs to clarify if that is true or not, the teams certainly were [B] contacted about this.

There is a war brewing in CalSouth between the association (CalSouth) and their major gaming league (CSL). It has reached beyond all reason and CalSouth is now doing things that actually hurt the kids, the teams and their ability to play soccer when, where and against whom they choose. It is really, really sad that the BoD of CalSouth has chosen to put their wallets ahead of their members...
This is the story. CalSouth is out to hurt CSL in any way that they can. The Premier League is socal is run by CSL. CalSouth's president (with the apparent support of CYSA-Ns president) pulled their sanction for this tournament.
Read this very, very carefully: I've personally surveyed about half our CalNorth premier team's coaches or managers. NOT ONE OF THEM IS IN SUPPORT OF CYSA-N IN THIS DECISION. The team's wanted to play. The CYSA-N BoD is wrapping themselves into CalSouth's problems with CSL and ends up hurting your teams.
How is that good for soccer in CalNorth?
Personally, I hope CSL sanctions this North/South tournament under US Club and holds it anyway. Every single team is CalNorth's premier circuit is already dual registered with US Club. Cal South teams can still play by registerning as guest-teams with US Club or even asking CalSouth for "travel papers" to play.
I hope it happens. It would drive a few more nails into the box for both CalSouth and CYSA-N!
