Well, we did end up with about 80 girls there yesterday.  There were probably 12 or so "out of area" girls, but their options are fairly limited.  Our gold team can take only 3 out of area, and each of our two silver teams can only take 2 out of area players (and one already has two out of area players).  In any case, I get the distinct impression that a number of the out of area girls there alreay have a spot elsewhere on their club's gold teams, and if they don't get chosen for the Mustang gold team, they won't stay to play silver, regardless of how well that silver team will do.

We have heard similar numbers for San Juan U12 going U13 girls (100 plus). We have also heard the "usual" chatter (all the pdp players from surrounding clubs are coming to try out, phenoms playing up will be there, etc, etc) I have learned a few things over the years...

1. Never believe the "number" of girls signed up will actually be the number of girls at tryouts.
2. Never believe the phenom players are changing clubs until you SEE them kicking the ball at the morning of tryouts.
3. Always be prepared with a back up plan in case those numbers and rumors are true!

I have seen some players come for a pre-tryout at the end of the season but I think largely it depends on the club and the player. With the two top teams at San Juan finishing 2nd and 4th in State Cup I would expect a much larger than usual turn out. There are going to be a lot of players who fully expect to make the "A" team looking for a new club or settlong for the "B" team in a scramble. If all those rumors hold true (that we have 100 people showing up to try out, 3 phenom players from other clubs, and the girls that currently play up will be coming to their age bracket) then there could be as few as 12 spots for that team. Its just too hard to evaluate that many players in a two day two hour tryout. If the coach hasn't seen the player in a game situation or talked to a coach who has I think it will be tough call to choose new players over current ones who have proven themselves. Either way, I'mglad I'm not the coach making those decisions! There are going to be some very disappointed kids this weekend.

I noticed your club announced an extra team in the U13s along with moving coaches around plus U12 and 13s first teams now called Jr ECNL. Is Jr ECNL just a title or will they be doing anything different?

Loomis Storm U12G is holding tryouts on February 23rd & 24th. They may extend into March 2nd and 3rd. Please go to www.lysc.net for more information and registration forms -You can also email Coach Sergio at sergio.scalise@yahoo.com or Coach Andrew at andrew@tothtown.com
This is a fun team!  The girls always make new players feel like they have been part of the team forever.  All of the girls play an integral role on the team and there is no real “all-star”, so teamwork is essential.   The Storm is the top U11G team in the Sacramento region, but in order to stay on top at U12, they need to bring on more players.  There are some very good premier teams in the Sacramento area and some parents may believe their child does not possess the skill set to play on one of these top teams.  But skills can be developed, the Storm coaches are looking for athletic players that have the drive to succeed and possess an ability to work within a team environment.  If you are looking to have your daughter play for a top competitive team, and have a lot of fun while doing so, come to the Storm tryouts.  We hope to see you there.

I think you will have to be a stand out (state level player) to make it over a good incumbent.  Loyalty and time invested into the player means something, right?

MTN lady.....as a coach how would you approach this?

Adding or dropping 2-3 girls for a top level team is what one could expect.

Nothing different. I think it's somewhat an attempt to say "You're on the blue team" (Not really the B team) El Dorado tried this and really upset a lot of parents who were told their daughter was on "Sol" only to find out that the previous "Sol" had been renamed "Eclipse".  We've been told that the ECNL team might not play Norcal and will focus on tournaments but I will believe that when I see it. I've considered the numbers and most likely roster and I think there are about 12 girls that will make the team even if they didn't show up to try out. The other four spots will be toss ups between 8-9 current players on the two A teams this year. I think there will be some really upset parents and kids after the weekend.

John Chimente is a great coach I have heard so they might keep some of the kids because of that. However, moving to a B team is always sensitive for players no matter how it's stated.

I think there will be some really upset parents at all the U14 ECNL clubs.

My top picks for the most upset parents after tryouts:

1) MVLA.  Two teams that finished in the top 10 will merge.  Plus throw in some Gryphons, Juventus, etc.  It won't  be a happy environment after tryouts for MVLA parents.

2) De Anza.  Again Rays are rumored to be merging and have the same issue as MVLA.

3) San Juan - for the reasons stated by other posters and the enormous population supporting only 1 ecnl club.  The end result will be a great team, but lots of unhappy 2nd teamers. Love to know how many kids show up to this tryout.

4) Mustang - class of all the clubs.  I believe the bottom three already know they are in trouble.  The seocnd team is pretty good but is there room for them with all those outsiders coming?

5) RAGE -  again like the mustang, the bottom three already know they are in trouble.  The question is will there be any talent  left  to replace them after Mustang tryouts.

6) SRU -  Already have a pretty good team but have a short roster currently as per the Norcal Roster.    I'm guessing they will be adding rather than removing.

I expect a BIG turnout at San Juan. Where the second-tier players (read: those who do not make the ECNL team) will go, who knows. The prospect of being on a club's "A Team" may be too much for them to stay with a great club like San Juan, although as I stated in another thread, it would be wise to stay with the club in case there is an injury on the ECNL team.

Congratulations to Loomis Storm for finishing in the top 8 in Norcal State Cup, but the "top U11 girls team in the Sacramento region."  Not so fast.

The USA Stars are the top U11 team in the Region 6.

If I'm not mistaken, Loomis has yet to beat FC Elk Grove or Davis teams finishing 1 and 2 in Region 6 League play.

Sac United was ranked 4th in Norcal at the start of the season and InterRage was in the top 8 last year.   Getting to "the top" is one thing, staying there is another.

That being said, my daughter has only positive things to say about the Storm coach with respect to his sideline behavior.  He seems like a fantastic coach and human being, and one's daughter could certainly do worse.  I'm assuming he's staying on for next year?

When you finish in the top 10 of the State Cup, you will not have any problem with attendance at your tryouts.   You will experience an overwhelming amount of families attending for a chance to get on the team, most with good intentions, some who just want to chase a dream of having their kid on the best team.

You are the top #5 team based on Norcal State Cup.  USA Stars currently are not a Norcal team and rumor is one large club threatened to pull out of Norcal if they were admitted.   Davis and Elk Grove finished in the State #2 division.  Loomis didn't play in the Norcal Fall league (CYSA CCSL?)

We will never know who the true top regional team is until we all play in 1 unified league.

Well, with Gregg Thompson coaching U12 right next door at Cal Blues, I don't think any one team can count on a monopoly of the great U12 girls in Placer County. Luckily, there seems to be a lot of talent to go around.
