Should be interesting former select clubs and original comp clubs competing on the same days for players.

I don't think there are many strong teams with attractive coaching/training situations at the "former select clubs"  I think players looking to move to a "comp" situation or existing "comp" players will still look to the "original comp" clubs first.

The bottom line is that you have to do your homework.  Not all teams within a particular "former select" club are going to have the same philosophy regarding the amount of training, quality of training, or quality of tournaments they want to enter.  The truth is, some teams will want to remain as before, and practice twice a week, etc. so the kids can participate in other activities.  There are also teams, in the same club, that wish to practice 3-4 times per week, use outside trainers, and play in the top tournaments.

Find the team that best suits the need of your player.  If you are lucky, you will find a team in your age group that has most everything you are looking for, otherwise, you will have to pay the high cost of a comp club.  That is certainly not to say a comp club will have everything you are looking for, but they will have the amount and quality of training.

might be a good idea to list the top 'former select' teams in the various areas by age/gender/region. It would take a little research though. Most of the top former select teams are stronger than most of the larger clubs b teams and as stronger, or stronger than the smaller comp clubs A teams. These stronger teams all pretty much have very good training/coaching as that is what got them to where they are at.

As for region 6 the stronger u13g teams that fit this category are as follows:

1. 49er United Sierra Blitz (Auburn) - currently in the top 32 of the Norcal State Cup, strong Gold CCSL team (will be playing Norcal next year as 49U has a duel affiliation with Norcal and CCSL). Play US club tournaments in the Gold/Premier level. Strong training program, top trainer, experienced coaches.
2. Eureka Wildcats (Eureka) - currently in top 64 of Norcal State cup, strong Gold CCSL team. Will play CCSL again next year (Eureka does not have a duel affiliation with Norcal). Play in US club tournaments in the Gold/Premier level. Strong training program, top trainer, good coaching.
3. Roseville Zoom (Roseville) - not playing Norcal State cup but do play several US club tournaments, strong Gold CCSL team. Will play CCSL again next season. Do NOT use trainers (I believe the Roseville club forbids them?) but have quality/experienced coaches.
4. Fair Oaks Explosion (Fair Oaks) - not playing Norcal State cup but do play silver level US club tournaments, strong Gold CCSL team. Will play CCSL again next season. I don't believe they use trainers but have a strong coaching staff.
5. ARFC Freedom (Folsom/Orangevale) - currently in the second group (white?) of the Norcal State Cup. Weaker Gold/upper Silver Norcal team. Will play Norcal next year (duel affiliation through Fair Oaks). Do use trainers.

That is a good idea. One way to check is looking at the recent NorCal Cup results. That will not cover teams not playing NorCal but I believe the top non NorCal teams would typically struggle to make top 32 list.
I believe there are not more than a handful teams typically advancing to top 32. It often comes down to one good/bad game, and good draw in first round...but nevertheless a good indication. In the younger age group I believe the comp clubs have by far the best teams. But it would be good to know about any high level comp oriented volunteer based teams.
The next question will be whether those teams truly look for additions or do they want to keep the 'family' together and not wanting to hurt someone feeling. For a volunteer coach those are tough decisions. And a reason not to market the request for new talent as much as comp clubs do.

Folks should also check tournaments entered and results but be very aware that level of play is typically hugely different between premier and gold group. Good premier teams can play up an age group and dominate the gold bracket. What are tournaments with good competition with good 'select' teams competing?

WRT what Roseville said, I agree.  Gold at one age is approximately the same as premier at the next age.  If I were to move my child from a premier level club's first team to a select silver/gold team, I would look into having them play up a year to continue providing an equivalent level of challenge (and if I wanted to continue spending the same amount of money, I would put the money I was saving into private training).  If your child is on a second team at a big competitive club, a strong select silver/silver elite/gold team would be playing at about the same level in the same age group.

(my daughter is playing up a year in a good select team, and it looks like her younger sister will most likely be doing the same.  If we could afford a competitive club, they would probably play their own ages.)

I read through a lot of these threads, and I am a little confused.  My daughters team is one of the select teams, however, they play in the top division of comp tournaments, and have a good chance at advancing to the top eight of the Norcal State Cup.  They don't belong to a traditional club, however, looking at the situation with PU, why would we want to make the switch.  I think it is beneficial to look at all options.  If not, you may pass up a great opportunity for your child.

What girls team is this you mention and are they looking to get new players via tryout?
As mentioned there are a few exceptions and one request was to list these exceptional teams.

My daughters team is the Loomis Storm.  They will be U-12 in 2013.  They have great players, coaches and parents.
