So besides ODP and PDP, which are coach referred, what else might be out there for the top player? Anything a parent can sign up for without a coaches referral?

ODP is an open tryout I believe. I know district six is having theirs this coming Saturday AM at Whitney high school. There is more info on the D6 metro web site.

How about using a good licensed trainer?  PDP is nothing more than a training session w good players (can't speak for the other regions).  Most of the time the kids did individual drills.   In fact I don't even think the top coaches were represented in our region.

In our district, ODP was recommendations only. And per the website, it says as much. Trainers are great...but only for one on one or small group work. Looking for more game situation opportunities. Hard to beleive ODP and PDP are the only things out there. Thanks for the ideas though!

Perhaps you can ask your club if your daughter can train with an age up.

Depends on what you're looking for.

If it's extra training, playing up within your club is probably the way to go.  That said, NorCal/PDP is doing an excellent job of creating additional opportunities and exposure for players.  ODP is pretty much irrelevant at this point.

I agree with 20sD, I heard District 6 had a "D" licensed parent coach as one of the evaluators today.  Not a program I would have a lot of confidence in.

Just wondering what type of coaching license do you need in order to evaluate talent? I don't have a coaching license, and I have never taken a coaching class, but I have a feeling that if I watch a group of players for an hour or so I can have a good idea of who the better players are.

To me ODP will be irrelevant the day that you look at the Regional Pools and the head coach and the two assistants for any given age are not the head coaches of three Division 1 schools. Or when you look at a NCAA soccer recruiting website and the top programs in the nation are showing all their players accolades and the first thing listed after their National Team experience is their ODP experience.

ODP in NorCal is not very organized, but I still think its a good option for your player to get exposure.

If I'm not mistaken the D level evaluator you're referring to coaches an older team who is ranked top 10 in the country.  Obviously he knows how to pick talent.
