This age group is very quite in the forum. Any thoughts on Mustang Winter Turf? My first question is which is the better tean San Juan Holmes or San Juan Love? I see Love won at Mustang Stampede, but Holmes beat Love at Placer 3-0. I'll start another topic for the Gold Division.

PREMIER
Flight A

San Juan Spirits 01 Holmes
Fca storm
Flames United FC (Stockton, CA) 00G
DFC Arsenal 00 (CA)

Flight B
Mustang Fury
San Juan Spirits 01 Love
CV Magic RED (CA)
Lowen83 Aftershocks (CA)

Holmes and Love are extremely close in abilities and it really depends on who shows up that day on how well they do and who wins. When it comes to Scrimmages and the tally of wins to losses Love beats Holmes. However, it seems during games that matter Holmes tends to bring it to the field. They both have strengths and weaknesses that can be exploited so at the end of the day it's hard to say who is the better team.

The FCA and Holmes match up is a tough one and I think FCA has the edge. Holmes is the prior EDUSA team so these teams have played each other in the last two state championships and Holmes has come out on top both times. However, in watching the game at Placer there's no doubt that FCA dominated most of the game.  Holmes came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat them 3-2 in the last 20 minutes of the game. Holmes is going to have to really be on their A game to beat them. Flames have been somewhat plagued by injuries but are never a team to take lightly.  I think the edge for the win there goes to both FCA and Holmes over the Flames.

In the second bracket I think the game to watch is the Mustang Love match up.  I think the edge goes to Mustang but just by a hair. They tied at Stampede and Love won in PK's but I heard Mustang somewhat dominated the game.  Maybe the Love team was just having an off day. They have the ability to beat Mustang within their Arsenal if they use it. Like the Flames CV Magic should not be discounted. I haven't seen them play in more than a year but they were big and physical when I last saw them.  They are a bit of an unknown as they didn't play in League and I'm not sure what other tournaments they've played in but they are doing pretty well in State Cup.

Thanks for your insights, which seem pretty impartial. You sound like you know the two EG teams very well. How do they pick those two teams? Most clubs put their best players on one team, but it sounds like they may be more equally divided here.

I'll put in my two cents and pick Mustang and FCA in the finals, with Mustang controlling possession, but loosing by a goal.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the Gold Bracket, in the other topic I opened.

Finals; FCA over Mustang 1-0. Boy did I call that one. Too bad so few in this age group are interested in this forum to see how smart I am. Did anyone see this game? I'm curious if Mustang dominated possession.

Mommystop, it looks like you were right on with your assessment of San Juan Love and San Juan Holmes, with their 1-1 consolation tie. Still interested how they pick those teams. By the way, listening to Holmes yelling at his players during one of the games made me think he's a bit of a jerk. Parents should not put up with that if they want their kid to continue with soccer.

The final game went to 0-0 through overtime and was determined on kicks with FCA winning. Mustang did not dominate by their typical possession and did not play much possession in the tournament. I also heard that Central Valley outpossessed and outplayed Mustang in their Sunday morning game. Mustang were on their heels from my understanding in the 2nd half against the San Juan Love team that ended at 0-0. Love team just missed the finals due to being scored on by the Aftershocks in a 5-1 game, lost tiebreaker to Mustang who beat Aftershocks 5-0. FCA barreled through their bracket with exception of the San Juan Holmes team. The Holmes team moved their offensive threat out of the back and as soon as they did, they were scored on by FCA. All of the last games on Sunday ended in a tie. This should show that any of these teams especially FCA, Mustang and the two San Juan teams can win on any given day. Those 4 are the cream of the crop. The age group was missing Pleasanton in the tournament.

No u11g topic so I have to post here.. What a specticle of u11 Modesto coach! Unable to display composure and display good sportsmanship to his little girls. Instead he blows up and tells the AR, " you are the worst AR ever!" and get ejected after several comments. They lost to Mustang 3-2.  I was at the upper muscle milk field and could here that guy make a full of himself.

The Holmes team girls love playing for him. He's a vocal coach. Their teams were picked by the Love coach at tryouts. He kept the old EDUSA team together for easy transition, picked his team and the White team he coaches. The teams will combine next season.

If a club can do it, I think it is wise to have two fairly equally matched teams at this age group. Sometimes those kids that are a little slow to developed are pigeon holed on a lower team and never reach their full abilities. Other early developers are just young stars. Let the cream rise to the top with equal competition.

Glad the girls like palyng for Holmes, but what I heard was a lot of negative comments. I think you can potentially get more out of your players with that apporoach, but only in the short run, and it's not approriate at this age. JMO, and based on limited observations.
