Excellent group of teams, including the top 7 from SoCal.  Should be an outstanding showcasing opportunity.  Good luck to all.

San Juan ECNL?  Seriously?
Hooked002 - October 05th, 2012 20:43 GMT

1.  I saw San Juan play an inspired game against MVLA Lightning a few weeks ago.  If they play at that level at this event, there are 11-12 teams that I believe they could beat or tie.

2.  Even if they don't get great results, it's primarily a showcase event.  San Juan has lots of players that can (and hopefully will, if they want) play in college.

3.  Even if they don't play in college, IMO, any player on any team that is making the social sacrifices that are necessary to continue playing club soccer as a high school senior or junior deserves at least a measure of respect.

1.  That same comment could apply to probably all of the top ten teams in Northern California.  They all have a great day now and then.  But consistency is key, and I have not seen it from San Juan.

2.  All of the top teams in Northern California have a lot of players that can play in college if they want to.

3.  Agreed, no disrespect intended to the San Juan players.  I think the tournament shows disrespect to the players on the other club  teams that were not admitted, who (IMHO) are more deserving than the San Juan team.

I don't know who applied and who didn't, but I think Shock, Marin, Lamorinda, Boca and Davis would have been better selections.  Especially when one considers the exposure that most of the San Juan players have already had to college coaches through their ECNL journey.

No MVLA Lightning, why is that Hooked?  Middle of the HS season?

I don't know if there is one reason.  My guess is a combination of at least 3 factors:  (a) the team has 6 seniors and (this probably surprises nobody) "all things high school" seem to matter more when you're a senior, (b), while the competition will be excellent, the showcasing aspect is likely not necessary for anyone on that team, and (c) the team has many trips after the high school soccer season ends, so there is probably no great desire to add to the costs and time away from home.  As that list suggests, though, every team is unique and, so, for other teams it can make a lot more sense to participate.  The quality of the teams is quite high.

It appears that many local teams will be playing in the November Nights College Showcase in Carlsbad over that weekend.

Shock is just finishing high school and decided not to attend.  With four ECNL events for the spring, we decided to pass on Surf.

Fram won the 2012 FWRL-Fall title this past weekend, beating Beach 2-1 in the key game.  So, I'm going to pick Fram to win the Super Division.  I'm going to pick SC Del Sol to win the Gold Division.
Hooked002 - November 27th, 2012 03:40 GMT

Fram won Super Division 2-1 over Slammers.  Del Sol won Gold Division 3-0 over Black Diamond (UT).
