I would have a section at the top with just a few introduction treads. Letting everyone know what the forum is about maybe a brief quick road map to the different sections.
Another tread for basic guidelines and forum etiquette, and a thread for definitions. (still trying to figure out what dd (district daughter?) is  ).
Finally a tread for general forum questions that I just addressed in general.
I suspect many people who come to this forum may be the on a forum for the first time. So a place to get there virtual feet wet could help.
As for other useful suggestions.. I am very new to this forum and still have not been around all the threads yet to really add much :(

When I look at the main forum page I like how it shows the last post info which indicates when something new has been added. When I click on the link in that column I would like to go to that post, or at least the page with that post. It always brings you to the first page of the thread,
I would actually like the pages to go in reverse order for those of us that keep an eye on them. The newest posts should be on page 1 and the older ones moved back to higher numbered pages. I always have to go into the thread and then click on the last page in order to read the current information.
In the Age/Gender forums it doesn't show if anything new has been added on the main forum page, understandable since there are so many different age/gender groups. It would be nice if it showed in that column a scroll of recent posts, kind of like it does on top.
It would be nice to have a forum on training and trainers to discuss different training techniques and philosophies as well as what trainers are good at providing what type of training, including strategy of play instead of just skills.
It might be interesting to have a rules forum. While the game is pretty simple there are subtleties to the rules. People could go on and on about offsides or handballs but things like obstruction could also be interesting.
How to go about getting considered for a college scholarship - the do's & don'ts, the resources available, and the timelines, and success and disaster stories could be interesting. I think it is a bit of a mystery to many people but those who have been through it may be willing to share their experiences.
How's that?

College Play
(a men's and women's section)
College Recruiting
College Coaching
College Referee talk
Miscellaneous/General College Discussions
(for us forum regulars with kids going off to college)
College Scene
(for the students/athletes)
College Links
(school sites and information etc)
Just some ideas. Obviously I think it would be great to have some college forums to stop by now and then. I think there are a lot of people with kids going off to college (or already in college) that might enjoy a college section.

I'll probably do a college heading with sub-forums for some of your other ideas. I have always wanted to provide more content (such as college links) but do not have the time myself. Every time I have asked for users of the forum to help me out by providing stories or pictures or links, etc... I have not received a lot of support.

I like the new registration requirement in some forums.
A spell check feature would benefit those of us who can be rather spelling challenged at times.
At first thought, the idea of a forum for referee's/refereeing sounded like a bad idea. On second thought it may a good idea. In three years of national level club volleyball and four years of D1 college volleyball, I have never seen a referee's call/calls decide the outcome of a match. In three years of competitive soccer... I've already seen it happen too many times. The quality, favoritism and seemingly inconsistent application of the rules of the "beautiful game" can make for some very ugly experiences. If you're going to have a forum for referees, then you should also have a forum for fans to complain about them.
A college forum could be interesting; but beware, I'm sure that the emotions and trash talking would far exceed that considered as unacceptable for the U10 - U18 forums.

If you use the full reply page instead of the quick reply at the bottom, there is a spell check. If you use Internet Explorer, I would recommend IESpell. It is free and works great.
A bash the ref forum could be a good place to blow off a little steam...
