With so many “comp” clubs in the area, I don’t think you will be able to find a single club who has strong teams at all age groups and genders.  I was actually hopeful that PU was heading in that direction, but I’m sure everyone reading the forum will agree that is more than obvious that is heading the opposite way.

Sounds like a very unhappy club member in a personal fight with a Board Member. Doesn't every big club have these type of situations? There is a point where looking for other soccer options with a different program for sake of own mental health and kids is the best. From what I hear every club at every level has these type of issues.

Posting these personal issues and names does not belong at a norcal soccer forum in my opinion. Unless we start a section "soap opera" for entertainment. I do not think GT wants these type of issues out here either.
I may agree with with her points but writing to board members should be enough. Making this public on social media and publishing here I do not agree with.

I hate the "elite' " term either. PU has some great coaches, some very good teams, probably best facilities around and from my experience many great soccer families supporting their kids the right way. With the merger i felt that all was set for success to combine and develop the talent in Placer. But sounds like there are some very unhappy members as well.

Can't make everyone happy.  The unhappy ones should take their money to another club.......

I agree that the term, "Elite" is not appropriate.  Perhaps, "full service" club works better.  With Full Service Clubs, you will get to practice up to 4 days per week, have all of the appropriate facilities, and full time professional coaches.  You will also pay the monthly fees and deal with the A, B, C team politics, etc..  The advantage is that your kid is more likely to get the training necessary to play for an NCAA 1,2, or 3 school.  Probably NCAA 2 or 3.

The other "comp" clubs offer some good coaching, decent training fields, and the ability to explore other interests.  The cost is significantly lower and some teams have the ability to compete up to a certain level.

"more likely" is more than hit and miss. Everything depends on who the coach(es) and trainer(s) are for any team you join. Be it a "full service" club or one of the 'other' clubs.

Basically "full service" I guess means:
a) you are guaranteed to pay more
b) you may or may not get what you pay for

No matter WHAT you pay it comes down to the quality of the trainer and coaches who are teaching, leading and inspiring the players.

REGARDLESS what you pay the bottom line is always:
a) is it fun for the players? Do they want to play next year?
b) are the players (and team) developing quickly?
c) is your player/team being challenged by the level of play that they are at? (not too high of a level, not too low of a level)
d) is it livable for the families (travel/expenses etc.)?

Finding a single coach that hits that bottom line for every player on his or her team is a challenge, let alone an entire club.

When you find a a coach that hits all of these let me know and I'll move my daughter in a heartbeat!

You should make this a Topic. "What is a true Comp Club" compare and contrast what you get from the new and old Comp Clubs. I'm sure there would be a lot of opions on what makes a Comp club a true Comp club.

That would be an interesting discussion as long as it doesn't break down into 'paid' coaches v 'unpaid' coaches being the determinating factor for what = "comp".

For starters I think the level of play the team demonstrates on the field is the first item I'd look at to determine if they are 'comp' or not. With that in mind then 'comp' doesn't equate necessarily to being the best coached and trained as I've seen some very good teams who got there primarly through good recruiting but their players didn't seem to progress much beyond that. On the flip side I've seen some coaches/trainers who are outstanding at developing players but just happen to be coaching a weaker group of players that year.

So perhaps we would need to split hairs a bit between 'comp' teams and 'comp' quality coaches?

Any truth to the rumor that Thompson is teaming up with Cal Blues?
